Carbohydrates Linked To Macular Degeneration

Are you aware that macular degeneration can cause irreversible blindness? Studies have shown that this eye disease is one of the complications to diseases related to diabetes.

The risk of developing macular degeneration can be reduced by a diet low in glycemic-index. This diet prohibit the blood sugar release.

The data from the Age-Related Eye Disease Study involved over 4,000 participants. The results showed that those participants whose dietary glycemic-index are very low had less macular degeneration frequency.

If the diet consumed by the participants has a dietary Glycemic-index below median, it could have reduced the occurrence of macular degeneration as much as 20% as observed by the scientist.

Based on the these observations, the poor quality of carbohydrates diet as defined by Glycemic-index may increase macular degeneration risk.

Hope this article helps.

The Insulin Resistance And Blood Pressure In Humans...Reduced By Cocoa

I read this interesting article at Life Extension Magazine about the ability of cocoa to reduce the insulin resistance and blood pressure in humans.

When the cell sensitivity and reaction to metabolic action of insulin is decreased there is insulin resistance. If there is insulin resistance, the pancreas secret more insulin in order to make up for the failure of the cell to efficiently use insulin. Patients who are obese and those that suffer from metabolic syndrome such as type 2 diabetes and vascular disease have elevated fasting insulin.

The destruction of vascular nitric oxide and endothelial dysfunction that contribute to hypertension is often cause by insulin resistance. In order to improve endothelial function, slow down atherosclerotic process, and decrease blood pressure, there is a need to increase the nitric oxide.

A study conducted in 15 days were done on human volunteers with hypertension. The purpose was to find out the outcome of eating polyphenols analyzed dark and white chocolate on many circulatory measurements. A reduction of 11-point (mmHg) in systolic blood pressure in diastolic pressure were seen among hypertensive patients who eat the dark chocolate

When the researchers look at insulin sensitivity measurements in these hypertensive patients they found out that those who consumed dark chocolate for 15 days had fasting insulin levels decreased by 29% and a fasting glucose reduction of 6%. Dark chocolate polyphenols improved the sensitivity of insulin in these patients. Those who consumed the white chocolate didn’t show any improvements.

In order to assess the endothelial function, the flow mediated dilation test was done. Improvements to normal was shown by the patients who consumed the dark chocolate. There was no flow mediated dilation improvements to those who consumed the white chocolate.

The researchers also found out that there was a reduction of insulin resistance and decreased blood pressure during day and night to the patients who consumed the dark chocolate during the 15 days studies.

Another study for done to evaluated the effect of dark chocolate on people who are healthy. They found a 45% insulin resistance and systolic blood pressure reduction within normal range.

They concluded that dark chocolate decreases blood pressure as well as improves the sensitivity of insulin in healthy people. The white chocolate didn’t have any effects.

Fat, The Major Enemy Of The Diabetic

Well, apparently it’s true. Experiments were conducted to prove it. According to this article, diabetic worst enemy is fat. When diabetic consume fat, it exacerbate the development of diabetes. It also hinders how the cells uses glucose, raising the diabetic blood sugar level.

Literature from medical sources cited an experiment conducted to find the effects of fat diets on intolerance of insulin. Diets with high fat that contains butter, cream, and egg yolks were fed to medical students who were young and healthy. Two days later, the high-fat diet raises their blood sugar levels to classify them as diabetic.

The experiment was stopped. The effect of changing their diet with complex carbohydrates normalized their blood sugar levels.

Insulin is not properly utilized when the food consumed contains fat because more insulin is needed for the glucose to be processed. The cells in the body resist insulin in the presence of fat. The pancreas, therefore, have to make more insulin to make up for the insulin deficiency needed by the body. The presence of fat in and around normal tissue hinders the absorption of insulin into these tissues.

Food such as meat, fish, dairy products, fowl, salad and cooking oils are the foremost sources of fat in the American diet.

Consuming high-fat diets among raw vegetarians are detrimental to their health. Their blood sugar levels become high. Consuming low-fat in raw diet such as fruit normalizes their blood sugar levels. Note! Source of this article: Roger Haeske

Alternative to Diabetes Treatment For Men

I want to share an article I’ve read from Life Extension Foundation Magazine written by Sale Kiefer.

The article is about other ways of treating men suffering from diabetes. Dr. Lichten approached the diabetes treatment not with insulin and medication, which are the traditional way of treating diabetes. Dr. Lichten proposed that treating diabetes by balancing the hormone of a man is a better way.

The testosterone levels of men decline as they grow older. Women have menopause while men have andropause. As men grow older, they experienced erectile dysfunction, diabetes and wasting of muscles due to declining testosterone levels.

According to the article, Dr. Lichten found in his clinical practice that men who are diabetic benefited from his testosterone therapy. He found that replacement of declining testosterone levels of men suffering from diabetes, increased their energy levels, helped in healing their wounds, and control the proper range of their blood sugar levels.

His testosterone therapy showed to be more beneficial than the medications for diabetics. In spite of the benefits derived from this therapy, the medical community are slow in implementing it.

Bitter Melon, A Food That Heals Diabetes

Dear friends,

I have been eating Bitter Melon fruit since I was a child, not aware of the benefits I've derived from it. I cook it with beef, pork, chicken, eggs and mixed it with other vegetable too. I always prefer eating the most bitter variety and I enjoyed it.

At present, studies have shown that Bitter Melon helps in the treatment of diabetes. It may improve blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Some Koreans called bitter melon, a miracle fruit. People in tropical regions use it to treat numerous infections and HIV.

The Bitter Melon capsules are effective in lowering blood sugar of diabetics. It has been confirmed that the fresh fruit of unripe Bitter Melon has blood lowering actions. It has been shown to significantly improve glucose tolerance without increasing blood insulin levels, and to improve fasting blood glucose levels.

This fruit is rich in iron. It has two times of beta carotene found in broccoli, two times the calcium found in spinach, two time the potassium found in bananas. It also contains vitamins C and B 1 to 3, phosphorus and good dietary fiber. In the Philippines, we believed Bitter Melon is good for the liver.

Bitter Melon contains insulin, which acts as an anti-tumor agent as shown by studies done by western scientist. It also inhibit HIV-1 infection.

Bitter Melon is one of the best herbal medicines for diabetic management. Numerous clinical studies have established the role of Bitter Melon to people with diabetes. There are three groups of constituents that are thought to be responsible for its blood lowering action.

Charantin, a compound which is composed of mixed steroids was found to be more effective in reducing blood sugar compared to the hypoglycemic drug, tolbutamide.

Polypeptide P, an insulin-like polypeptide, , appears to lower blood sugar in type I (insulin dependent) diabetics, while alkaloids present in the fruit have also been noted to have a blood sugar lowering effect.

I hope this information can help those of you who are diabetics.

Healthy Way To Lose Weight

Friends,

Have you heard this statement…

You want a healthy way to lose weight. You visit your doctor. You can rule out any medical conditions that you may have, and ask your doctor for advice specific to your medical history. There are some conditions that make it harder for you to lose weight, and if you have one of these conditions it is important that you know before you begin any diet.

You have to know what you’re up against before you can loss weight. For example, if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome, or any other related medical condition, you are going to have a harder time losing weight. There may be specific medications you must take in order to get your system working properly. Once you are on these medications you should be able to lose weight like everyone else. Read more articles about health and wellness at: http://www.healthnwellnessarticles.com

Another thing to consider when you’re losing weight is how much exercise you are getting. By including exercise in your daily routine, you are truly going about a healthy way to lose weight. You can cut calories all you want, but you are not going to get the results you want unless you get moving. Combining exercise with your reduced calorie plan is the best healthy way to lose weight.

No matter how many commercials you see for gimmicks or diet pills, remember that the best results come from old-fashioned hard work and willpower. If you find you are slipping, go out and find yourself a support group. They will help keep you on track.

We all know that you have to cut calories to diet. However, if you want a healthy way to lose weight, you have to know how many calories you should cut. Many people start out cutting way too many, and they quickly fall off of their diet. Diets work best when calories are in moderation, but are never cut down too far. Eating only 500 calories a day is most definitely not a healthy way to lose weight.

Warning...Menopause Natural Remedies

Dear ladies,

Let’s talk about menopause. This is a subject that every woman will have to go through in her life. I’m beyond menopause and fortunately, it didn’t bother me at all. A few hot flashes here and there, but nothing serious.

If you’re having menopause, and want to stay away from drugs, you will naturally look for natural remedies. However, if you are taking other medication, be warned that some natural remedies ingredients can interact with your other medications. You can end up being sick.

You may believe that the term natural remedies means you can take the product no matter what. This is not true, and it applies to natural remedies for your menopause.
If you’re considering natural products to help you, with your menopause, be careful, consult your doctor before taking it. Read more articles about health and wellness at: http://www.healthnwellnessarticles.com

Not all natural remedies are not safe, some studies showed that natural remedies can help or prevent the occurrence of diseases. Just be warned, you don’t want to take something that may lower your hot flashes or make you more comfortable if it will make you sick.

The reactions of these natural remedies may be mild but they can be severe. If you need relief, it’s not worth taking the risk for a bit of comfort. Your doctor maybe able to recommend other means to help eliminate some of your troubling symptoms.

I hope you learn something from this article.

Child Obesity, An Epidemic In America

Friends,

There is more obese children in America than in any other country on earth, that’s according to some estimate. Obesity in child is definitely a serious problem in this country. Some of the experts even call child obesity in America an epidemic.

Children with diabetes is skyrocketing in numbers. Do you know why? It’s obesity!!
Children spend their time watching T.V., eating junk foods with no exercise. Parents who are busy, would let their kids watch T.V. while they do their household chores.

Obese children are much more likely to be picked on by their peers, which contributes to a cycle of depression, binge eating, and greater obesity. Basically, obesity in child is a self-reinforcing cycle of destruction. It can cause not only psychological problems, but deep physical health problems as well. Read more articles about health and wellness at: http://www.healthnwellnessarticles.com

This problem can lead to all kinds of health problems. Problems such as diabetes, asthma, pinched nerves, difficulty concentrating, and emotional issues all stem from childhood obesity.

Fortunately, there are many programs out there for obese children. They can be enrolled in an after school obesity in child program. This program is meant to make exercising fun. They can receive counseling, be taken to group therapy sessions where the different children would get to relate their experiences, and most importantly, received a dietary and exercise plan. Just made sure that they follow this plan to the letter.

Chronic Pain Remedies

Friends,

Because of our fast-paced society, most people do not have time to really care for their health. Problems like lack of sleep, lack of focus and concentration, and chronic stress are epidemic. One of the worst of our problems is chronic pain.

When we watch our television, we are all bombarded with all kinds of pain remedies…from traditional pills like Tylenol and aspirin, to herbal and alternative treatments. Some of the advanced pain relief methods involve acupuncture, energy manipulation and other techniques. When you are in chronic pain, you will try anything to make it go away. Fortunately, many of these pain remedies are quite effective.

My chronic pain is due to my TMJ, a problem with the jaw. I tried almost every pain remedy that there was. Prescription pain remedies were pretty good. They would take away most of the pain, but nonetheless I would be chronically uncomfortable.
I would not be able to work on my computer for long periods of time. My neck would hurt and I have to lie back. Some exercises recommended by my doctor did help. I tried some acupuncture pain relief. The relief was short-lived.

Finding the right pain remedies can be a long and involved process if you assume that there can only be one thing that's going to take care of everything. If you're willing to be open to the possibility that the problem is a complex one that requires a multi-tiered approach, however, you will probably find a pain remedy that works for it.

In my case, my pain remedies involved exercises, medication, changes in my diet, and even changes in my work schedule. If I had not been willing to try all of these things, I would still be in chronic pain. Because I was open-minded and dedicated to finding a solution, however, I am better.

I hope this information will help you in dealing with your pain.

Who Is Responsible For Our Individual Health

We are responsible for our individual health. There are factors that we can control in very simple and effective ways, to prevent conditions and diseases. We can avoid a visit to the doctor, and another costly prescription with side effects we may not even want to think about, but must, for our own protection.

We've come to realize that our diets play a big role in our individual health and disease in the last couple of decades. We know consumption of fatty and fried foods can cause the cholesterol to soar or harden our arteries. We're aware of the many benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables, loaded with antioxidants and free radical scavengers, which can go along way towards staving off cancer, colds and digestive problems.

Cold water fish contain the now famous and beneficial omega-3 fatty acids, which are dubbed the “good” fats in nutrition circles. A couple of minutes thought on these few examples shows us we have a great deal of control over our individual health problems.
Read more articles about health and wellness at: http://www.healthnwellnessarticles.com

Then there are legitimate conditions we may have accumulated over the years, due to poor lifestyle habits, diet or simply genetically passed on as a vulnerability. Even then, we needn't rely on a pill to save the day. Taking responsibility for our own individual health concerns means we must do a little work ourselves, many times producing a very favorable result.

Let's say your cholesterol is high and your doctor gives you a prescription medicine to reduce the levels. However, after reading the literature accompanying that prescription, listing all the warnings about possible side effects, you're not so sure you want to consume this pill.

You do a little research on cholesterol and find that many clinical studies demonstrate that daily garlic intake will reduce the cholesterol levels by an equal amount in the same time frame, with no scary side effects. That's when you want to consult your doctor and talk this over. If you can get the same results from a food rather than a pill, why introduce a pill that may do you harm?

You'll find that by educating ourselves, we can take charge of many individual health concerns and be healthy and hearty.

Our Body, A Miraculous Machine

Our body is a miraculous machine and functions with remarkable reliability. It is an amazing structural masterpiece. The body in which we live is our oldest, closest personal possession.

We are made up of thousands upon thousands of complex chemical compounds. Water is the main substance accounting to about 70 to 80% of our body. The most abundant substances next to water (10 to 20%) is protein. The rest, inorganic salts (combinations of metals with non-metals), lipids (mainly fats), carbohydrates (sugar) and nucleic acids. DNA contains the master plans for building the body and RNA enables the body to follow those plan.

Our body is a high organized, marvelously designed, living organism. Our body constructs itself. It grows, acts, reacts, regulates its own activities, and repairs itself. Our body reproduces and so ensure the continuity of our life.

When we are healthy, we take our body for granted. We don’t do anything to maintain it and sometimes even abuse it, until our body sends out signals that something is wrong. The symptoms can be minor but it can also be a serious problem such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney problems, blindness and even death.
